Total surface of the island is 28,8 km2 and there are several villages: Okrug Donji (Lower,) Okrug Gornji (Upper), Arbanija, Slatine, Žedno and Ciovo. Čiovo is about 2 km away from the mainland on the east (cape Marjan); on the north-west, it is connected with mainland by drawbridge (in Trogir).

The island was inhabited already in prehistory and old Romans used to call it Boa (Bua, Bavo). During XV. and XVI. century the surrounding population came to the island, running away from the Turks. The south side of the island is rather uninhabited.

Since the island Ciovo is a kind of extension of the city Trogir, it offers a lot of possibilities for vacation, recreation and swimming, as well as numerous historical monuments. The Mediterranean vegetation, archipelago with small picturesque little islands, mild climate and most beautiful beaches in hidden bays, will certainly make your stay unforgettable.

Od kopna na istoku (rt Marjan) Čiovo je udaljeno oko 2 km; na sjeverozapadu je s kopnom spojeno pokretnim mostom (u Trogiru). Naselio se već u prapovijesti, a stari su ga Rimljani nazivali Boa (Bua, Bavo). Tijekom XV. i XVI. st. na njemu se sklanja okolno stanovništvo u bijegu pred Turcima. Južna je strana otoka prilično nenaseljena.

Kako je otok Čiovo svojevrstan produžetak grada Trogira, nudi pregršt mogućnosti za odmor, rekreaciju i kupanje te mnogobrojne povijesne spomenike. Mediteranska vegetacija, arhipelag sa malim slikovitim otočićima, blaga klima i predivne plaže u skrovitim zaljevima zasigurno će Vaš boravak učiniti nezaboravnim. George Bernard Shaw once said that „there was no greater love than the love for food“. It’s not only buildings and history what makes this town; it lives through its scents and colors, flavors and sounds, through all those perfect dishes created in its long and rich history. The gastronomy of Trogir is a typical Mediterranean one, with lots of fish and seafood, olive oil, cheese, pršut (smoked Dalmatian ham), and various meat dishes.

But the local identity of Trogir is accomplished through two typical dishes, ‘pašticada’ and ‘rafijol’. They taste best if you have them in a ‘konoba’ (a Dalmatian tavern). Don’t forget to try some of the autochthon Dalmatian wines, like ‘Pošip’, ‘Babić’, ‘Postup’, ‘Faros’ and many others.

Grad su svi mirisi i boje, okusi i zvuci, sva savršena jela što su stoljećima nastajala ispreplitanjem raznih gastronomskih utjecaja. I trogirska gastronomija je definirana laganom mediteranskom kuhinjom: ribom, školjakama, plodovima mora, obiljem maslinovog ulja, sirom, pršutom i raznovrsnim mesnim jelima. Ali lokalni indetitet priskrbile sujoj dvije delicije: trogirska pašticada i trogirski rafijol. Najbolje ih je kušati kroz prizmu dviju dalmatinskih institucija: Konobe i marende. I pritom ne zaboraviti autohtona vina: bijeli pošip, crni babić, postup, faros i mnoge druge.

The Saint Peter church is located in the centre of the town with the statue of Saint Peter made by Nikola Firentinac on the main entrance. This church used to be a part of Benedictine monastery and after a school. The most dominant part of the monastery is a well with the arm of family Marković whose members invested in art and financed the Baroque organ case inside the church.

Saint Barbara is the oldest preserved Croatian church in Trogir (11th century) situated beside the town loggia. It consists of three-edges with three semi-circular apses on the east side, church-tower in the middle of the dome and shallow niches on the side walls.

This art symbol is, the Saint Dominic convent, is located on the waterfront of Trogir. The polyptych of Blaž Jurjev Trogiranin and works by goldsmiths from Trogir from the 15th century are kept in the collection. The convent and the church of Saint Dominic date from the 14th and 15th century. The grave of the family Sobota (Nikola Firentinac, 15th century), a garden with Mediterranean plants and a well are part of the church.

Church of Our Lady of the Angels is located on the mainland town. It used to be an integral part of the Franciscan monastery, and in the early 19th century. With the church was the town cemetery.

Located in the western part of town – Pasike, was extended in the 17th century., Thanks to the homonymous Confraternity. Smaller square was renovated in the late 19th century. And now used for public events.

Smještena je u centru grada čiji glavni ulaz krasi kip Sv. Petra Nikole Firentinca. Kroz povijest, bila je dio benediktinskog samostana, a kasnije škole. Kruna dvorišnog dijela bivšega samostana jest bunar s grbom obitelji Marković čiji su predstavnici mnogo ulagali u umjetnost te, čak, sami financirali nabavu baroknog ormara za orgulje.

To je najstarija starohrvatska sačuvana crkva (iz 11. st.), a nalazi se uz gradsku ložu. Trobrodne je forme s tri polukružne apside na istoku, zvonikom u sredini kupole, te plitkim nišama na bočnim zidovima.

Nalazi se na Trogirskoj rivi. Zbirka čuva vrijedan poliptih Blaža Jurjeva Trogiranina te djela trogirskih zlatara 15. st. samostan i crkva sv. Dominika datiraju u 14. i 15. st. U crkvi se ističe grobnica obitelji Sobota, djelo Nikola Firentinac iz 15. st. U klaustru samostana je vrt s mediteranskim biljkama i bunarom.

Crkva Gospe od Anđela se nalazi na kopnenom dijelu grada. Nekoć je bila sastavni dio franjevačkog samostana, a početkom 19. st. uz nju se nalazilo gradsko groblje.

Smještena u zapadnom dijelu grada – Pasikama, proširena je u 17. st. zaslugom istoimene Bratovštine. Manji trg uređen je krajem 19. st. te danas služi za pučke fešte.

This magnificent structure is the work of the master Marin Radoje (14th – 15th century), and it was built as a continuation of the so- called fortress of chains. It got its name from the word ‘kamerlengo’ (camerarius), clerk – cashier, who was responsible for all financial jobs by arrangement with the duke. Today, it is an irreplaceable summer stage and gazebo.

Saint Marc’s tower was built during the 15th century to protect the town. It is located on the north-west side of the island as an extent of the Kamerlengo fortress. Between the fortress and tower there is a gloriet built in the beginning of the 19th century in gratitude to France during the Napoleon wars.

Veličanstveno zdanje djelo je majstora Marina Radoja (14.-15. st.), a sagrađena je u produžetku tzv. kule od veriga. Naziv je dobila po kamerlengu (camerarius), činovniku – blagajniku, koji je imao dužnost voditi sve financijske poslove u dogovoru s knezom. Danas je nezamjenjiva ljetna pozornica i vidikovac.

Sagrađena tijekom 15. stoljeća zbog bolje obrane grada. Danas je u njoj Kuća dalmatinske glazbe. Između nje i susjednog Kamerlenga početkom 19. stoljeća sagrađen je spomenik u znak zahvalnosti Francuskoj.

Located in the small church of the same name in the part of town called Pasike. Its form is simple, renovated in the style of the 16th century and for the needs of the gallery was redocerated in the 20th century.
