U središnjem dijelu hrvatskog Jadrana, na sutoku šibenskih i zadarskih otoka, smjestila se jedna zasebna i po mnogoćemu posebna skupina otoka nazvana Kornati.
Zbog izuzetnih krajobraznih ljepota, zanimljive geomorfologije, velike razvedenosti obalne crte i naročito bogatih biocenoza morskog ekosustava, godine 1980. veći dio Kornatskog akvatorija proglašen je nacionalnim parkom.
Danas NP “Kornati” zauzima površinu od oko 220 km2 i uključuje ukupno 89 otoka, otočića i hridi s približno 238 km obalne crte. I pored ovog, relativno velikog broja otoka, kopneni dio parka čini tek manje od 1/4 ukupne površine, dok je sve ostalo morski ekosustav.

In the central part of the Croatian Adriatic, between Sibenik and Zadar town, there is a separate and amazing group of islands named Kornati.
Because of the beauty, interesting geomorphology, indented coastline and rich marine life, the 1980th most of the Kornati archipelago was declared a national park.
Today the National Park “Kornati” occupies an area of ​​220 km2 and includes 89 islands, islets and rocks with approximately 238 km of coastline. Despite this relatively large number of islands, the continental part takes less than a quarter of the total area, while the rest of the marine ecosystem.
